My Bedroom

Robert likes his room to be tidy, but it’s difficult as it’s his brother’s bedroom too. When Robert is alone in the room he does his homework or listens to music. On the walls, there are a few small posters. Robert wants to have more and to paint the walls yellow, but his mother doesn’t agree. There are photographs of family holidays and of his sister’s children. ‘I like my room best when they’re here. It gets untidy, but I don’t mind.’

James

James’s bedroom is painted in his favourite colour, yellow. He loves rugby, and there are several photos of him playing in the school team. ‘After school, I like to come up here to play computer games. My room’s like my safe place. I can relax here.’ James keeps his room tidy. His school work is on one shelf, and on another he has all his books.

Harry

‘After school, I come up here and chat to everyone I know on the computer,’ says Harry. ‘I never work here - I study in the kitchen.’ He has a big desk with a laptop in the middle, a PC on one side and a lamp on the other. Hijack

Some people are afraid of flying. They are worried that the plane will crash or that someone may hijack it. A person who hijacks a plane usually says he will blow up the plane if he does not get money. Sometimes hijackers do not want money, however. They want other things. They sometimes want their friends to let out of jail or to go to another country.

The first hijacking happened on the 16th June 1948 on a plane travelling from Macau to Hong Kong. Some men with guns told the pilot they wanted money. The pilot fought them but the hijackers shot him. The plane crashed into the sea and nearly everyone in it died. Only one man lived. His name was Wong-yu Man. When the police brought the plane out of the sea, they looked at it very carefully and found bullet holes in the walls of the plane. They knew then that there had been a hijack.

A policeman sat near Wong-yu Man's bed in the hospital. Before long, Wong-yu started to talk in his sleep.“Where are my men?" he said. "Are they all right? Did they get the money?" The policeman wrote everything down. He knew Wong-yu's words meant something. He thought Wong-yu was one of the hijackers. He was right. When Wong-yu came out of the hospital, he went to jail for a long time.
