My trip to Rome

Rhodri

I had a great time in Rome with my family. It was my first holiday outside my own country and I couldn't wait to go. I found out all I could about Rome from the library and on the internet. Knowing about the history made seeing all the old buildings, like the Colosseum, much more interesting. We were able to do lots of sightseeing because the taxis and buses and the metro were cheap and fast.

Patrick

It was really hot when I arrived at Rome airport with my parents last summer. I loved walking around famous places like the Trevi Fountain, but all the cars and buses in the city sometimes made walking difficult. I really loved the food. The Italians have a special kind of ice cream called "gelato" which is wonderful, but the best thing I had was a pizza at a local market. I also got some great things to take back for my friends.

Josh

It was so hot when my dad and I went to Rome last year that we usually waited until after the sun went down to explore the city on foot. During the day we went to museums, shops and restaurants. The pasta there is amazing, and I had some Italian ice cream, called "gelato", for the first time. That was the thing I liked most. After a few days in Rome, we decided to take a train into the countryside for a day. It was nice to see all the small villages and farms.

The Three Peaks Challenge

My name is Shaun Perkins. I am seventeen years old and I have just done the famous Three Peaks Challenge. This is a walking challenge which means that you have to walk up three high mountains. I did it to get money for my local children's hospital because they had helped my brother when he was very sick.

I did the walk with a special group because it can be quite dangerous especially if the weather is bad. They have a guide who shows you where to walk. When we started on the first mountain, I was worried that it would be too difficult for me but actually it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

We did the walk in the summer so that the weather would be good. The first two mountains were lovely as the sun was shining. However, we were halfway up the third mountain when a storm suddenly came. It was raining and there was a heavy thunderstorm. I was very afraid. No one was hurt but we did get very wet. The most important thing about this challenge is the clothes you wear. That means you need good walking boots, trousers and jacket, and a hat for the sun. It doesn't matter what your clothes look like but they must be comfortable. Also, you need a small bag.

I had a brilliant time on the challenge even though it rained. I didn't really have many people to talk to but the places where we walked were really beautiful and I loved looking all around me, on the mountains.

An unusual holiday

Most people go on holiday to get away from work. But in the beautiful Scottish village of Wigtown, it's to rent a flat above a bookshop and work as the of the bookshop for a week. This holiday is very popular with people who love books and who always have their own bookshop.

However, this is a holiday, so people staying there don't have to work very hard. They can the opening hours of the shop, and they just have a few jobs to do, such as the shelves with books.

Guests also get a bike, so they can the area when the shop is closed. The holiday is so popular that the flat is fully booked for the next three years.
