Hi Granny

I'm having a brilliant holiday. It's very cold here, and is lots of snow everywhere. We've just arrived at the hotel where we going to stay tonight. It's amazing because all the walls and the roof are of ice! The beds, chairs and tables are pieces of ice, too. We have to our coats inside because it's too cold if we take them off.

I enjoyed my first trip on a plane. I could see the snow on the ground from the window. It really fun!

Love from

Emma

Flamingos

Flamingos are a very unusual kind of bird. They do not look any other bird. Their legs are very long and thin, and their necks are the shape of a letter "s". But strangest thing about flamingos is that they are pink!

are flamingos pink? Because of their food. Flamingos live in and around lakes and seas and they eat small creatures from the water. little creatures have lots of something called carotenoids in them. Carotenoids give carrots their orange color, and carotenoids flamingos pink.

Flamingos live in large groups. groups have thousands of flamingos in them. They often all on one leg in the water. It is really amazing you see hundreds of them flying above you.

Many flamingos can live for 40 50 years. But one flamingo lived in a zoo until it over 83 years old!

A special history lesson

Last month, Harry's class took the bus to visit an old castle at the top of a hill. When they arrived, their teacher, Mrs. Hope, stood outside and told them about the history of the castle. "History is so boring," Harry thought. "I'll go exploring by myself."

Inside the castle, he found a heavy door at the end of a long hall. He pushed it open and saw a beautiful woman. She was sitting alone in the dark empty room. "Hello," she said. "My name is Mary. This castle was my home four hundred years ago."

Mary was very friendly and Harry was interested in her story, so he sat with her and chatted. She told him all about the kings and queens of the castle long ago. Harry forgot about his classmates until he heard Mrs. Hope call everyone back to the bus. "Thanks for the stories, Mary," Harry said. "I'll never forget you."

The next day, Mrs. Hope wanted the children to talk about their visit. "Did you enjoy the stories the actors told you?" she asked. "Actors?" asked Harry. "Yes, Harry. There was an actor in every room, with the story of a person who lived there in the past. Didn't you talk to one?" asked Mrs. Hope. "Oh, no!" Harry said. "Mary's story was a history lesson?" "Yes, it was, Harry," the teacher said and smiled.
