Three people talking about the internet

A. Karen

I think the internet is great. My cousins live in Australia and I really miss them. We use Skype to talk once a week and to tell each other our news. Also, my best friend lives in Germany at the moment because she works there so we talk on the internet nearly every day. It would be very expensive if we talked to each other on the phone but it doesn't cost us anything to talk on the internet.

B. Peter

The internet is a great way to have fun. I love playing games on my own and with my friends on the computer. I also play games with people that I have not met in real life. Some of them are even in different countries, which is exciting. Sometimes my friends at work think that I should stop playing because games can make you do bad things in real life. However, I'm clever enough to know the difference between games and real life. I wouldn't do anything bad.

C. Sue

I'm not really interested in playing games on the internet although most of my friends are. For me, the best thing about the internet is that I can find information about everything. When my parents were young, they had to go to the library if they wanted to know about something for a project. I can be comfortable in my office and do all my work. Also, I am learning German on the internet. There is a fun website where you learn words by listening to songs in German. It's much better than my boring French classes when I was a student.

Who says working in an office is easier now?

Anna Kriss writes about her favorite restaurant.

Do you have a favorite restaurant that you go to with your family? I do! It's called Ben's Place, a new restaurant in my town. Not many people know about it yet, so it's never really busy - which is why we enjoy eating there. It costs more than some restaurants, but the food's good. I'm hoping to get there for my next birthday!

Ben's Place is easy to find, but it's not in the town square, with all the other restaurants and fast food cafes. Instead, it's on a road going out town, which always has lots of cars driving along with it. But you can usually find somewhere to park outside.

When you go into the restaurant, a waiter always comes to say hello, and another one chats with you as you walk to your table. The restaurant looks great inside, with lovely yellow walls. And there's often someone playing the piano, which is nice.

There are wonderful dishes on the menus. Lots of them are things we have at home. But when I'm at the restaurant, I never know which to have - they all sound good! Dad tries to give me advice, but I prefer to choose for myself.

Everything's delicious, especially the soups and the curries. My dad's a good cook, so I'm hoping one day soon he'll teach me to cook what we have at the restaurant. But my dishes will never be as good as the ones at Ben's Place!

Anna and her parents like the restaurant because

  • it's good for family birthdays.
  • it's not usually full.
  • it isn't very expensive.
Anna says the restaurant is
  • on a busy road.
  • near a fast food cafe.
  • in the town square.
Inside the restaurant
  • the walls are variety of colors.
  • someone is always playing music.
  • the staff are really friendly.
When Anna gets the menus, she
  • can't decide what to order.
  • doesn't usually know many dishes on it.
  • has to ask her Dad to choose for her.

What does Anna say about the food she has at the restaurant?

  • It's as good as her dad's cooking.
  • She wants to try making the dishes herself.
  • The curries are the best things there.
