YOUNG MUSICIANS

FRED

My parents play in a band so there is always music in our house. I started playing the piano when I was six after I heard a very young girl play at a concert. She was just five years old but she was as good as an adult professional pianist. My first concert was at the age of nine. I'll never forget how scared I was, but once I was at the piano I relaxed and just thought about the music.

OLGA

My parents are both doctors but they really enjoy listening to music. My mother played the piano when she was young so she asked me if I wanted to learn to play something. I chose the violin but it isn't easy. Sometimes I get angry when I can't play the right way. I don't know if I'll keep playing it. I also play tennis three times a week and it's a bit tiring doing everything, so I guess I'll have to choose.

BRIAN

I've always loved music since I was a little child. My father told me I started dancing as soon as I heard classical music on the radio. That's why when I was four, I started piano lessons. However, my teacher wasn't very friendly. I sometimes got bored with the exercises he gave me, so a year later I asked my parents if I could have singing lessons instead. I really enjoy singing. I often sing with my brother, who plays the guitar. It's so exciting!

Archie Campbell talks about computer games

I started playing computer games when I was seven years old. My parents didn't let me have a computer so I used to go to my cousin's house and play games on his computer when his mum and dad were at work. My parents would have been very angry if they had known that.

My cousin Freddie showed me how to play games that older children usually play and he said that I was much better than most of his friends who were three years older than me. I was going to ask my parents again for a computer but he told me to wait for another year, at least.

Then I started to have computer lessons at school. That was when everything changed. I learned how to make programmes and I started to make my own games with my cousin's help. From that time, I knew that making games was all I would ever want to do.

I didn't say anything to my parents for a long time. Freddie's parents didn't know what we were doing, either. Then one evening it was parents' day at my school and my computer teacher told them that I had a brilliant future making computer games.

Now I am 20 and I enjoy student life. I have already sold one game to a small computer company but I don't have much time to make games now because I have a lot of exams soon. However, two computer companies have said they want to talk to me as soon as I leave university because they want me on their team.

Bodega Cats

There are many types of cats, and many of them live with us, but there is a very special type of cat that is very popular in New York city, and that is the Bodega Cat.

But do you know what a Bodega Cat is? These are cats that live in convenience shops sell food, sandwiches and soft drinks. They are as a type of pest control, or in other words, to rodents from coming into the stores. But is this legal? Not exactly. In order to pass a health inspection, there can be no live animals in a place that serves food. But most health inspectors in New York accept bodega cats as the option to keep the rodents controlled.

These types of cats are becoming a beloved in New York. There have been many articles, blog posts and even social media accounts dedicated to them.
