The world's largest school

City Montessori School Lucknow, India, is the world's largest school. Nearly 50,000 pupils attend classes there every day, and the school nearly 4,000 staff, including teachers, cleaners, and electricians. The students learn traditional subjects such as geography and maths, and also discuss topics like world peace.

Dr. Jagdish Gandhi set up the school in 1959. It was hard work, and at first, he had to persuade people their children to the school. But now, students come to him from all over the city.

At such a large school, pupils have to work hard to get noticed by the teachers. One pupil says: 'If you're chosen for a school team, you can certainly feel proud that.' Another pupil explains what he likes best: 'Being at the world's largest school means you can lots of friends.'

Fill in each blank with ONE best word.

Greetings from Stonehenge!

Stonehenge is one of the most famous sites in UK, and it's also one of the oldest. It's a group of prehistoric stones, arranged in circles. Some of the stones from 260 kilometers away, and are very large and heavy.

Stonehenge has stood in the British countryside 5,000 years. Millions of people have visited it, but nobody is quite sure the stones were placed there. Some people believe that Stonehenge was a giant calendar because the sun lines up with the stones at certain times of year.

It's certainly a popular place to visit, although visitors have to keep a short distance away from the stones and are not allowed to touch .

Read the following passage then choose the best answer to each question below.

The start of every New Year is when we make plans to change our life for the better over the forthcoming twelve months. Psychiatry professor Jayashri Kulkarni says, “January 1st is a ‘magical’ date and a vow made on this day is much more powerful than the one made on June 1st, for example.” So, we make a list of things to quit, start or change. Unfortunately, most of these promises are, more often than not, broken by January 31st. They are usually the identical resolutions that were not fulfilled from the previous year, and the years prior to that.

Researches show 45 percent of us make a New Year’s resolution. The most common vows including losing weight, volunteering to help others, quitting smoking, saving money and getting fit. Others include eating healthier food, drinking less alcohol, and going on overseas trips. However, researches also show that most of us are not so good at sticking to these. A study from the University of Scranton reveals that 71 percent of us stick to our annual promises for the first two weeks; six months later, less than 50 percent are still on track to keep their resolutions. Most people who give up on their resolutions do so because of a lack of willpower and the use of the ‘escape clause’ that they will ‘try again next year.’
