Read the following passage then choose the best answer to each question below.

Easter is on different Sunday each year, but it is always in March or April. Easter is not a national holiday. It is a religious holiday for Christians. For many people, Easter celebrates the beginning of spring.

The English word for Easter comes from the old English word Eastre. Eastre was the name of the goddess of spring and light. In the spring, flowers bloom and trees become green. The earth wears “new clothes”. Many people wear new clothes on Easter Sunday, too.

Eggs and rabits are new signs of spring and new life. American children believe in an imaginary rabit, the Easter Bunny. The night before Easter, the Easter Bunny visits many homes. He brings children baskets with eggs and candy. Some Easter eggs are hard-boiled eggs in different colors. Other eggs are chocolate. The Easter Bunny hides eggs in the house or outside in the yard. On Easter morning, children look for eggs from the Easter Bunny.

Easter _____.

  • is celebrated on every Sunday in March or April
  • is only celebrated by Christians
  • is a public holiday
  • is a spring holiday

The word "Easter" _____.

  • means "new clothes"

  • comes from the name of a goddess
  • means "the beginning of the spring"

On Easter morning, _____.

  • American children run around trying to find the eggs
  • family often get together for a big breakfast

Read the following text.

Mercury is the smallest member of the Sun's family. It is only 3,100 miles across. It is also the Sun's swiftest planet. Its yearly journey round the Sun is only 85 days.

Mercury always keeps one side towards the Sun. On this side, it is always day, on the other side always night. We only see the lighted side.

Mercury appears to us like a yellowish-orange star. The nearest planet to the Sun, it is always seen near the Sun, either just before sunrise or soon after sunset. People sometimes call Mercury the Morning Star or Evening Star.

Mercury is half the size of the Earth. Because it is much lighter, it has much less gravity. If you can visit Mercury in a spaceship, you will find it a strange world. Its low gravity makes you feel very light. If your weight on Earth is 100 pounds, your weight on Mercury is only 27 pounds.

Looking at the Sun from Mercury, you can see that it is much more brilliant than it is seen from the Earth. And the yellow center of the Sun appears three times bigger from Mercury.

On its lighted side, Mercury's temperature is about 300°C. But the dark side is extremely cold, but -150°C so Mercury is probably the coldest as well as the hottest of the planets.

Fill each blank in the following sentences with ONE word from the text.

1. Mercury's orbit around the Sun takes only days.

2. From Earth, only the side of Mercury can be seen.

3. The looks bigger when it is seen from Mercury than from Earth.

Write a paragraph (about 30-50 words) about the topic:

The strangest dream that you have ever had.
