Read the following passage and choose the best answer for each blank.

Americans have always loved to have fun during their free time. In the past, people enjoyed simple outdoor activities as picnics and playing in the park. Families often gathered in local parks or their own yards to enjoy time together. Back in the day, television was a big part of leisure time. Families would sit together to watch their favorite shows. It was a shared experience that brought closer.

Nowadays, things have changed with the internet. Many Americans spend their free time online watching videos, playing games, or talking with friends social media. But don't worry, outdoor activities are still popular. People like to hike, camp, and play sports. There's also a new interest in fitness and wellness activities like yoga and running. So, the activities have changed a bit, one thing remains the same: Americans love their free time. It's a chance to , be with family, and do the things they enjoy, whether it's outside or on a screen.

Read the text and answer the following questions.

Yawn! Are you getting enough sleep? There are experts who don’t think you are. The average bedtime for most children today is much later than it used to be. Years ago, children used to go to bed by 7:30 p.m. Today, children are lucky to get in bed by 9:00 p.m. There are many reasons why experts believe this is the case.

One of the reasons is because children are involved in too many activities. Children have the opportunity to be involved in soccer, ballet, basketball, ceramics, Girl Scouts, badminton, piano, and more. There is no end to the number of activities in which children can become involved. This means that as soon as school is out, many children are expected to attend practices. By the time children get home, they get a quick bite of dinner to eat. After dinner, there needs to be time set aside to complete homework. Most children want to watch some television before they take a bath or shower and get to bed.

Another reason children aren’t sleeping as much is because more and more families have both parents working. By the time parents get home, they have a lot of work to do. They need to get dinner going. They need to run children here and there. And they need to help children with homework. Families need to cut back. Children need to be involved in fewer activities. Parents need to come up with a better schedule for the family. Children need more sleep!

What time did children usually go to bed years ago?

  • 7:30 p.m.
  • 8:00 p.m.
  • 8:30 p.m.
  • 9:00 p.m.

Why do children today have later bedtimes?

  • They are not interested in going to bed early.
  • They eat too much sugary snacks before bedtimes.
  • They take part in lots of activities in a day.
  • They watch television late at night.

What is NOT mentioned as an activity that children participate in at school?

  • Playing sports
  • Doing DIY projects
  • Doing ceramics
  • Playing instruments

What do most children like to do before going to bed?

  • Playing video games
  • Reading books
  • Watching television
  • Playing with their pets

What should parents do to improve their children's sleep problem?

  • Reducing their hours at work
  • Limiting the time children spend on TV
  • Arranging a more reasonable schedule
  • Hiring a maid to help with housework
