Read the following passage then choose the best answer to each question below.

THE DAY 1 GOT MY DOG
by Natasha, age 12

I've loved animals since I was a little girl, but my parents work all day and I'm at school until 5 p.m. This is why every time I asked to get a pet, they said no. Things changed on a rainy day last March.

I was coming back from school with my best friend Diana when we saw a rubbish bin move. There was a black bag inside and when she took it out and opened it, I saw a little dog. I think it was less than a month old because some of its teeth were still missing.

The dog looked sad and hungry, so I took it home. While I was waiting for my parents to get back, I gave the dog some meat and water. The dog drank the whole bowl of water but it didn't eat anything, then it lay down on the carpet in the living room and slept.

When my parents got home, they were surprised. My father sat down on the sofa and the dog jumped on his legs: he touched its head and smiled. My mother went into the kitchen and came back with some meat: this time the dog ate it. Then she asked me to choose a name for it. She also said that if I wanted to keep the dog I would have to look after it every day because both my parents were busy at work until the evening. We have had Leela for 4 years now. He's part of my family and we all love him.

Why couldn't Natasha have a pet?
  • Her parents were too busy.
  • She had too much homework.
  • She was too young to have a pet.
  • Her study at school could be affected.
Where did Natasha find the dog?
  • near a rubbish bin
  • on her way to school
  • in a black bag
  • near her friend's house
Why did Natasha think the dog was very young?
  • It had small teeth.
  • It had few teeth.
  • It had no teeth.
  • it had large teeth.

What did the dog do first when they got home?

  • eat food
  • drink water
  • sleep on the sofa
  • play with toys
What did Natasha's mother do when she saw the dog?
  • She asked Natasha what the dog's name was.
  • She gave the dog some food.
  • She said they couldn't keep the dog.
  • She wanted to raise the dog.
