What animals see
Scientists think that many - perhaps most - animals cannot see colours. “The world is black and white to them."
To find out if dogs could see colours, scientists gave dogs food every time they played a certain piece of music. “The dogs got ready to eat only when they heard this piece of music. They did not get ready to eat when they heard other pieces of music.“
Then the scientists gave the dogs food every time they showed them a certain colour. The dogs got ready to eat when they saw this colour. The scientists then showed the dogs another colour. Again the dogs got ready to eat. The colours were all the same to them.
Colours are not all the same to monkeys, however. For example, if we put food in a red box, and do this every day, a monkey will always go to the red box to get the food. If we then put food in a blue box, the monkey won't go to it.

Growing Family
My mother and father divorced about ten years ago. Six years later, my mother met a kind and considerate man called Tom and she remarried. He had two sons from his previous marriage, Michael and Harry, who are now my step brothers. They used to live with their mother, but now we live together in an enormous house that Tom bought and we are quite a loving family. It’s nice having brothers to play with because otherwise I would have been a(an) child. My father lives with a woman called Sarah. She is a very warm and friendly person and I really like her. She and my father are thinking of a child. The problem is that Sarah works for an airline so she is always flying around the world and sometimes she is away home for a whole week. She says that she is not very and that she might stop working to look after a baby.
